at the
San Diego Unified School District Transportation Yard,

4710 Cardin Street, San Diego, ca 92111

It takes a special driver, with special talents to transport students with special needs. The "California Transporting Students with Special Needs Roadeo" was started to give special drivers with special talents a chance too showcase their abilities.

At the special needs roadeo, drivers will work as a team with a monitor/assistant to complete their task. These teams will compete against other teams using the skills and knowledge necessary to transport special needs students. The teams will compete in events that will test their ability to operate the bus smoothly over rough terrain to minimize the impact on sensitive students, their awareness of their bus and its surrounding, their  ability to handle emergency situations, and the special knowledge necessary to transport special students.

Although the "California Transporting Students with Special Needs Roadeo" is competitive in its nature, it is also very educational. Drivers and monitors will learn the best techniques, skills, and procedures necessary to provide the BEST transportation for students with special needs.

This roadeo is beneficial to the drivers, monitors, the school districts, the bus companies, the community, and especially to the special students that ride the bus
